Ron Carr: 37 Years of TADQ Impact

In 1981, Ron Carr joined the newly formed TADQ as a volunteer, bringing with him a talent for metal and woodwork to help families in need. One of his first projects was for 7-year-old Mark, who lived with Spina Bifida. Mark’s family loved camping and bushwalking, but as he grew older, carrying him on family adventures became increasingly difficult.

Ron and another volunteer worked together to design and build a custom rickshaw wheelchair, so the family could continue enjoying their outdoor adventures together.

That project was just the beginning of Ron’s remarkable 37 years with TADQ. Ron helped countless of families with his ingenious ideas and practical solutions. Now retired at 78, Ron reflects on the many smiles and hugs shared over the years. A proud life member of TADQ, Ron says of his time volunteering, “I got out of it, as much as I put in.”

We are incredibly grateful to Ron for his dedication, generosity, and the lasting impact he has made on so many families over nearly four decades.

Ron says, “TADQ has provided me with many great opportunities to put smiles on the faces of many people, and to help them in their daily lives. I am lucky to have had this chance when TAD first came to Queensland inviting us to become volunteers. I have enjoyed all my time with TADQ and the friendships I’ve made with members and clients.”
