Every Child Deserves the Freedom to Ride
TADQ was privileged to support a four-year-old boy through the Freedom Wheels program and be part of his journey. He lives with Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome, a rare condition that affects his balance and causes rapid muscle fatigue, particularly in his legs.
This makes everyday activities like running, playing on the playground, and riding a bike much more challenging. He does not have the strength to pedal a standard bike or the balance to sit safely and keep his feet on the pedals, so he would often miss out on these moments of play.
Through Freedom Wheels, his bike was thoughtfully modified to suit his needs, with stabilisers added for extra balance and foot cups to help guide and support his feet. During his assessment, there was a lovely mix of nerves and excitement, which quickly turned to joy as he rode with growing confidence, with everyone soon running to keep up.
A special Christmas delivery made the experience even more magical, and he is now able to join his friends in riding. He loves going fast, but most importantly, he feels included and part of the fun—this is what Freedom Wheels is all about.
Mum shared, “It was very emotional, as a mother, to see your child miss out on anything breaks your heart. And there will always be challenges ahead, but to be provided with equipment that can help him lead as normal life as possible is wonderful.”
“We had tears watching his little face beam with delight. I have tears now just thinking about it. As a family and we couldn’t thank TADQ enough!”
