A cleverly crafted cut-out desk

A cleverly crafted cut-out desk for a young student with spondylometaphyseal dysplasia resulting in short stature and an inability to fully extend her arms.  Her OT made a referral to TADQ to assist with making a customised desk that would support her participation in the classroom, despite her physical limitations with decreased reach.   As our client was unable to move her chair out easily, she was unable to access an under desk tidy tray.  As she was unable to reach behind her to retrieve items from a chair bag, this was also not an option.

Our workshop team came up with an innovative solution, featuring a push-pull desk top on one side and a hinged flap on the other – under which our little client can store and access all the school materials she needs.  The desk also features height adjustable legs to allow for growth and three lips around the edge of the table to prevent items rolling off.   The colour grey was requested to be consistent with the other school desks in the classroom and to be similar to our client’s peers.

Beautiful job Alan, what an awesome end-product!
